PictureLa Casa de Eliza, is a locally owned hostel where you can find peace and relaxation after a day of exploring Quito 's local attractions. We can also help you discover the wonders outside of Quito , in our beautiful country of Ecuador .

La Casa is owned and operated by Maria Eliza Manteca Oñate, an Afro-Ecuadorian woman from the Imbabura province. Known for her tenacity and fighting spirit, Maria Eliza is an ecologist and proud founder of the Golondrinas Foundation, located in northwestern Ecuador . Since 1991, she has donated La Casa's humble earnings to generate and maintain the Foundation's projects such as Environmental Conservation, Recuperation of Eroded Soils and Cerro Golondrinas Environmental Education.

Our cozy four room hostel has 15 years experience serving guests from all over the world. They return to us time and again because they love our familiar atmosphere and they feel safe in our comfortable and tranquil home. After an adventure in the city or the forest, there is no better place to take rest than La Casa de Eliza.

La Casa de Eliza is located at Avenida Isabel la Católica N 24679 in modern Quito , new town, just 20 minutes from the airport, in a quiet, residential neighborhood. For only $5.00 USD a night per person, you can stay in a friendly environment with cooking and washing facilities as well as a place to store your luggage. PictureCasa Guallupe - Located in the tiny village of Guallupe , in a lush subtropical valley 64 km. from Ibarra in northwestern Ecuador , Casa Guallupe has doubles and shared rooms. For just $15.00 USD a night per person, we provide lodging and three meals a day. Our hostel has captivating views of the Mira River and the surrounding Andes mountains.

The Golondrinas Foundation has an information center at Casa Guallupe where you can find out about its activities and how to visit the Cerro Golondrinas Protected Forest Reserve. We invite you to volunteer at one of our many projects, hike in the region, visit our permaculture demonstration farm, Peña Negra, and discover the local beauty of rural Guallupe.

PictureCabaña Santa Rosa, is a new cabin with basic accommodations for up to 30 people. Santa Rosa is located in the outskirts of the Cerro Golondrinas Protected Forest at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level. This is also where the Golondrinas Foundation has its Center for Training, Scientific Research and Ecotourism. Its purpose is to offer training workshops to the local population as well as national and international visitors, governmental organizations, non-profit organizations and all those interested in understanding the activities of the Golondrinas Foundation.

While you lodge at Cabaña Santa Rosa, you not only have the opportunity to spend time in the beauty of the cloud forest and observe toucans, butterflies, monkeys, and cock of the rock, among others. You can also learn about the Foundation's Santa Rosa projects such as forest conservation, fruit and vegetable demonstration sites, a hydraulic turbine installation, and projects aimed at teaching locals sustainable alternatives to cutting trees for a living, which are also applicable to other regions.

Cost: $25.00 USD a night per person. Includes three meals a day, local guide.

Cabaña el Corazón is situated at 2,200 meters above sea level, deep in the Cerro Golondrinas Protected Forest Reserve. Located in primary forest, this cabin has very basic accommodations but offers a breathtaking view of the majestic Cerro Golondrinas mountain.

You must be in good physical shape to make the three hour trek from the village of Las Juntas to Cabaña el Corazón . The hiker is rewarded with picturesque vistas and an incredible diversity of flora and fauna along the way. We do offer assistance in transporting luggage via horseback to Cabaña el Corazón.

Cost: $25.00 USD a night per person. Includes three meals a day, local guide.

PictureCabana de Moran can be found in a very quiet location, on the edge of a high-altitude grass- and shrub land called the páramo , 3000 meters above sea level. The Golondrinas Foundation supports Cabaña de Morán and the surrounding community, they hire local people to help run it and to provide them alternative economic opportunities. A young man from the community of Morán named Carlos Castro manages this site along with the help of other Morán locals. Carlos owns a small farm where he grows traditional crops and fruits such as blackberry and strawberry. He also has a small nursery where he is reproducing native species in danger of extinction.

This cabin has basic accommodations yet offers a rural and tranquil environment in a unique habitat and awe-inspiring views of the starry night sky.


Cost: $10.00 USD a night per person. Includes three meals a day.
